Vitamin B12 is a water-soluble vitamin that contributes to healthy nervous1 and immune system function1, to healthy red blood cell production1, to the cell division process1, and helps to reduce tiredness and fatigue1.
Vitamin B12 deficiency can cause different symptoms: megaloblastic anaemia*, neurological symptoms (disorientation, loss of memory, numbness and tingling in the hands and feet, difficulty walking and dementia), and gastrointestinal systems such as loss of appetite and constipation2. This deficiency is very frequent in vegetarians3, since vitamin B12 is found in foods of animal origin such as shellfish, meat, fish and, to a lesser extent, in eggs and dairy products4. It is advisable that people who consume a vegetarian or vegan diet take a vitamin B12 supplement in order to meet their daily vitamin B12 needs.
There are different forms of vitamin B12 such as cyanocobalamin and methylcobalamin. Cyanocobalamin is the form that has been most closely studied as a supplement. It is also the most stable form and the one that best resists light, temperature and pH variations5.
Our vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin) is obtained through fermentation and it is suitable for vegetarians and vegans. Each capsule provides 1000 micrograms of this vitamin (40000% NRVs**).
*Megaloblastic anaemia: disease that appears in middle age, where there is a gradual decline in the number of red blood cells, also with an increase in their size.
