Organic baobab fruit pulp: Description
Discover the exceptional properties of SUPERFOODS with the new powder range from our new brand POWDER Nothing But Plants® range!
This product range offers an innovative concept: an alternative way of consuming dietary supplements and healthier foods – in milkshakes, salads or mixed with your favourite foods.
Our baobab fruit pulp (Adansonia digitata L.) comes from Senegal, where the fruit of this 'magic tree' is harvested during the months of February and April. Once harvested, the pulp is separated and sifted, to obtain baobab pulp powder that has a slightly acidic taste and is very rich in nutrients: it has a high vitamin C, calcium, potassium, iron, fibre and antioxidant content.
Try our POWDER Nothing But Plants® organic baobab pulp powder, rich in vitamin C (150-300mg/100g) and fibre (40%)!
Discover its high antioxidant potency!
The baobab (Adansonia digitata L., Malvaceae family) is a tree native to the sub-Saharan savannahs (1) that grows naturally in dry areas of Africa, mainly in the Sahel, Sudan and Sudan-Sahel areas. It is notable for its large size (it can grow 25m tall) (2) and its peculiar shape.
It is one of the longest-living trees known, and its scientific name comes from the French botanist Michel Adanson, who found a specimen estimated to be more than 5,000 years old in the Cape Verde islands (3).
The wood and fruits of the baobab have numerous uses, in traditional medicine and in food, as well as for making hunting and fishing materials (4). In addition to the fruit’s pulp, its leaves and seeds are also edible (1).
COMPOSITION AND BENEFITS
The pulp of the baobab fruit contains a high level of vitamin C (10 times more than an orange!), calcium, potassium and group B vitamins such as thiamine and nicotinic acid (4). The pulp also contains a high percentage of carbohydrates (mainly simple sugars) and fibre (2), as well as proteins (1). It also provides the diet with numerous amino acids such as tyrosine, glutamic and aspartic acid, arginine and glycine (2).
Due to its high vitamin C content, baobab pulp is recommended for:
- Decreasing tiredness and fatigue.
- Improving the absorption of iron.
- Encouraging the healthy immune system function.
- Protecting cells from oxidative damage.
