Description: Berberine (Berberis aristata)

What is berberine?

Glucose

Berberine helps to improve blood glucose control1

Berberis aristata DC. is a thorny shrub belonging to the Berberidaceae group. It is native to India and grows in the Americas, Europe and Asia, measuring about 3 to 4 metres in height2. This shrub, known as Indian barberry, has been widely used since ancient times for the highly valuable compounds it contains.

The beneficial components of Berberis aristata DC. include berberine, a natural alkaloid found mainly in the root. Berberine is the subject of multiple scientific studies researching how it affects sugar levels in the body1.

Glucose control

Berberine is well known among people who are carefully watching their sugar levels, as it helps to improve blood glucose control1.

Berberine from Berberis aristata: The best origin

Although this compound can also be found in other plants of the Berberis family, such as Berberis vulgaris, Berberis thunbergii and Berberis homaccord, it is Beberis aristata DC. that is considered the best natural source of berberine. Although many berberine food supplements use the Berberis vulgaris plant, at Anastore we are committed to sourcing the best possible raw material, so always check that a product explicitly states that it contains Berberis aristata.

Standardised extract of Berberis aristata root. Guaranteed quantity

Always check that the food supplement you are buying only contains standardised extract of the plant's root, as the rest of the plant does not contain as much berberine, and many brands use this as ‘filler’. This is not a genuine guarantee of the amount of berberine a product contains.

Anastore's berberine is natural in origin, from Indian barberry root (Berberis aristata DC.). It is a dry extract standardised to contain 85% berberine HCL, guaranteeing the recommended quantity of berberine. Each dose contains Berberis aristata root extract, standardised in berberine HCL, the perfect choice and the best way to take natural origin berberine in a high-purity product of the highest quality.

Check the label! It's not pure Berberine HCL

Unlike other products with high berberine content, our product offers a purity of 85%, resulting in a product that more closely resembles the berberine plant in its natural state, while still being safe to use. The term Berberine HCL refers to berberine hydrochloride, which is the salt form of berberine. This compound is obtained through a plant purification process and usually sold with a purity of over 95%. However, this type of product is considered a substance rather than a botanical preparation, so its safety has not yet been evaluated by health authorities.

Suitable for vegans and vegetarians

Thanks to the plant-based capsules we use at Anastore, and because none of the product's components are of animal origin, our berberine is perfect for vegan and vegetarian diets.

How to take Anastore's Berberine (Berberis aristata)

By taking the capsules indicated on the label, in two separate doses with any of your main meals, you will get the recommended daily dose of berberine HCL standardised extract.

What is berberine used for and how does it act in the body?

The barberry contains compounds called alkaloids in its plant, the largest of which is berberine, with its root containing the highest concentrations.

Berberine acts by helping to improve sugar levels1. According to research, it stimulates energy production in the mitochondria, increasing ATP production. This means that berberine plays an important role in energy metabolism, as it is involved in the metabolism of glucose.

Can Berberine be combined with other food supplements?

You can combine Berberine with the Garcinia Cambogia-based food supplement for inducing weight loss3, in addition to controlling glucose, thanks to its guaranteed hydroxycitric acid content.

Berberine is a food supplement that is a perfect pairing with L-glutathione and Papaya, traditionally used to reduce body fat4, thanks to the papaya fruit's proteolytic activity.

Plus, if you take Berberine you can give your body a boost with Multivitamin Formula or Vitamin B-Complex to benefit from the properties of different vitamins.
